My god, your friend is stupid. If the car were mine, I would`ve made
him pay for the cleanup.

It may take a while, but I`m confident that you`ll get everything sorted
out.
The oil smell could well be a result of oil getting on the exhaust. With
the heater on that can be drawn into the car. If that`s what`s happening
the smell will probably be worse when stationary and mostly disappear at
highway speeds.
What I`d do is to to throughly clean the engine and engine bay. A steam
cleaner will work fine, just be careful around the electronics and
alternator. Best to do it on a hot engine and let it dry well before
starting. Then carefully watch the engine to see where the oil is coming
from. I like to get the front end up in the air high enough to be able to
inspect from the bottom.
Favorite places for leaks that will cause the burning oil smell are on the
front of the engine and/or power steering pump. The natural air flow
through the engine tends to move any loose oil onto the exhaust.
